I grew up in a small logging community on North Vancouver Island - a sensitive kid learning to navigate tough environments. As I grew up, I adapted and became independent, capable, and resourceful. These qualities carried me far in a world that rewards self-sufficiency.

At the age of 19, I was starting to face what was the beginning of my journey with chronic pain. However, my passion for connection, new experiences and adventures meant the pain I carried was simply a passenger along for the ride.

In my thirties, I was living a full life: married, two kids, a successful business, and a garden that allowed me to practice my hand at homesteading. But my chronic pain was starting to leave an imprint on me physically and emotionally. I didn’t understand it, and I resented the ways it limited me.

After the birth of my second child in 2009, I started to look at the underlying causes of my ailments and began my healing journey, which I nicknamed the staying-out-of-the-wheelchair-program.

For over 10 years, acupuncture was my go-to for acute flare-ups and regular tune-ups. Inadvertently, it was also helping me with my emotional and mental health.

I now realize there were underlying patterns at hand, and the chronic pain was one aspect of how those patterns were being expressed.

This journey led me back to myself and into the study of Chinese Medicine. In the spring of 2021, as many people around the world were reflecting on their values and seeking greater alignment, I took a leap of my own and began my acupuncture studies at Pacific Rim College. Learning Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture has been nothing short of a gift, and for me, it represents art, science and philosophy. I will be happily honing and practicing my craft for many years to come.
